Open Letter to Ed Gold

Ed Gold is a British documentary photographer or journalist, known for his social documentary projects and photo-essays on people living on the margins of society. His work has been published by the BBC, the Daily Mail, and in his own magazine Positive Futures. He is often described as a photographer who lives off-grid without a permanent home base.

Alongside this public image, however, I feel compelled—in good faith and in the public interest—to state that in my personal experience, Ed Gold has engaged in misconduct. This includes:

  • Harassment — repeated, unwanted, and intimidating communications, which I believe fall under the Protection from Harassment Act 1997 (Scotland).
  • Defamation — the publication and circulation of false claims designed to damage my reputation, potentially actionable under the Defamation and Malicious Publication (Scotland) Act 2021.
  • Threatening or abusive communications — including a written statement that he intended to “visit me” to resolve supposed “mental health issues,” which I consider may fall under the Communications Act 2003 §127 and the Criminal Justice and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2010, §38.
  • Hate speech / racist abuse — discriminatory remarks and language, which I consider to fall under the Offences (Aggravation by Prejudice) (Scotland) Act 2009.

To ensure a factual record, I am creating a website documenting these alleged actions. The purpose of this archive is not to inflame, but to preserve evidence and allow anyone to review the material themselves. I make these allegations in good faith, supported by documented communications. Where relevant, IP addresses and email source codes can be provided to those with a legitimate interest.

I also feel a duty to publish this material so that individuals and organisations—particularly those working for a positive future, or those vulnerable through mental health—can make an informed decision before collaborating with Ed.

To Ed Gold:
Police Scotland have been informed of your threats and xenophobic words, and formal complaints have been submitted to the appropriate journalist regulatory bodies. A dossier of alleged offences is being collated and will be provided to a solicitor to assist with police investigation, and legal action is in preparation to protect both myself and our community.

Let me be clear: there is nothing you can do to compel me to remove this website or its accompanying PDF. Every attempt to pressure, intimidate, threaten, or discredit me will be documented and linked back to the website.

Your own actions only amplify the visibility of this record and increase the likelihood that it becomes permanently associated with your name—even on platforms such as Wikipedia.

Any potential future arrest or court case will, like all such matters, form part of the public record and may be noted in coverage of your career. Arrangements are in place to ensure the website and its archive will remain accessible long-term, regardless of my personal circumstances.

This is not a threat, but a simple statement of fact: I will defend myself with evidence, law, and transparency. If you truly believe my words are false, your lawful recourse is to challenge them through the courts—not through intimidation, harassment, or further defamation.

The combination of the website, the published PDF, the police involvement, and the solicitor’s dossier ensures that this matter cannot be buried, ignored, or erased.

This letter is published as a protective measure, in good faith and in the public interest.

Sincerely,
name
